Wedding Wednesday : LeMaster - Marshall Engagement

Located the following engagement announcement in the archives of the Ball State University Daily News for my paternal first cousin once removed, Stanley LeMaster Jr.

Engagement Announced
Mrs. Marjorie Marshall announces the engagement of her daughter Lillian to Technical Sergeant Stanley LeMaster, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley LeMaster of Akron, Ohio.  Miss Marshall is a graduate of Economy High School, Economy, Ind., and at present is on a fouryear nursing course here at Ball State and Ball Memorial Hospital.  Sgt. LeMaster is a graduate of Akron High School, Akron, Ohio.  He is a waist gunner on a bomber in the Army Air Corps and has just returned from active duty oversears.  He is  now stationed at Santa Anna, California.

Stanley Duey LeMaster, my paternal first cousin once removed, was the son of Stanley Duey and Anna (Beard) LeMaster.

DIED AT HOME OF HER SON


Mrs Rachel Cunningham Died At Home Of Her Son John Cunningham


Funeral Friday


The Service Will Be Held At The Methodist Church at Salamonia at 2 P.M.


Mrs. Rachel Cunningham passed away at the home of her son John W. Cunningham West Water street at 2 o'clock Wednesday morning.  Mrs. Cunningham has been in failing health for some time but was able to come Sunday from Salamonia, to the home of her son in this city.  She was born in Shelby County, Ohio July 16, 1837 and was the daughter of Leuman and Mary Young LeMasters. Her husband William Cunningham died June 4th 1911.  She is survived by eight brothers and sisters and the following children: Mrs. David Rants, of Salamonia, Phillip Cunningham of Y--- Nebraska, John Cunningham of this city, Mrs. Lorinda Pauling of Cincinati, Ohio and Mrs. C.E. Beard Dayton Ohio.  Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church at Salamonia Friday afternoon at two o'clock.  Rev. Pfifer will officiate, the funeral party will leave the residence at twelve o'clock Friday.

Rachel was my paternal 2nd-great grandaunt, the daughter of Rev. Luman Walker and Nancy (YOUNG) LEMASTERS.  She married William E. CUNNINGHAM on March 18, 1860 in Jay County, Indiana.  She is buried in the Salamonia Cemetery.

Family Milestones: June 28th

My maternal great-grandparents, Clemon Beals LAMBERTSON and June Kirk DAVIS, were married on this date in 1917 in Monroe County, Indiana.  Clemon was the son of Charles Wilson and Pearl May (BEALS) LAMBERTSON.  June was the daughter of Ida DAVIS.  They lived in Elwood and Greentown, Indiana where they raised 4 children.  Clemon was a cabinetmaker for Sellers.  June died March 20, 1951 in Elwood, Madison County, Indiana.  Clemon died March 18, 1994 in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana.  Both are buried in the Elwood Cemetery, Elwood, Madison County, Indiana.

My paternal 7th-great grandfather, John CRANDALL, was married on this date in 1738 to Elizabeth LEWIS, daughter of James and Sarah (BABCOCK) LEWIS.  John was born circa 1682 in Westerly, Rhode Island, the son of Joseph and Deborah (BURDICK) CRANDALL.  Elizabeth was born circa 1693.  I do not have her parentage. They had 2 children.  John had previously been married twice before.  John died January 1767 in Hopkinton, Rhode Island.

My maternal 4th-great granduncle, Peter GROENENDYKE, was married on this date in 1821 in Wayne County, Indiana to Hannah BEARD, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (DICKS) BEARD.  Peter was the son of James and Joannah (ANTONIDES) GROENENDYKE, and the older brother of my Elias GROENENDYKE.  Peter was born May 2, 1800 in New Jersey.  Hannah's birth was recorded 1803, 12th month, 12th day at Springfield Monthly Meeting, Guilford County, North Carolina.  They had 4 children.  Peter died August 24, 1854 in Montgomery County, Indiana.  Hannah died November 19, 1886.

My maternal great-granduncle, Gerald LAMBERTSON, was born on this date in 1906 in Hamilton County, Indiana.  Gerald was the son of Charles Wilson and Pearl May (BEALS) LAMBERTSON, and the younger brother of my Clemon LAMBERTSON.  Gerald died October 4, 1906 in Hamilton County, Indiana and is buried in the Cicero Cemetery, Cicero, Hamilton County, Indiana.

My maternal great-grandaunt, Geraldine LAMBERTSON, was born on this date in 1906 in Hamilton County, Indiana.  Geraldine was the daughter of Charles Wilson and Pearl May (BEALS) LAMBERTSON, and the younger sister of my Clemon LAMBERTSON.  Geraldine died October 5, 1906 in Hamilton County, Indiana and is buried in the Cicero Cemetery, Cicero, Hamilton County, Indiana.

My maternal 2nd-great grandaunt, Lola May LAMBERTSON, was born on this date in 1883 in Hamilton County, Indiana.  Lola was the daughter of Carey W. and Clara E. (COOK) LAMBERTSON, and the younger sister of my Charles Wilson LAMBERTSON.  Lola married April 15, 1905 in Hamilton County, Indiana to Omer A. WHISLER, son of Joseph W. and Mary Francis (PAUL) WHISLER.  Omer was born February 13, 1869 in Atlanta, Hamilton County, Indiana.  They had 2 children.  Omer died May 22, 1946.  Lola died November 26, 1964 in Hamilton County, Indiana.  Both are buried in the Arcadia Cemetery, Arcadia, Hamilton County, Indiana.

Family Milestones: May 2nd

My paternal 5th-great granduncle, Curtiss HURLBUT, was born on this date in 1764 in Woodbury, Connecticut.  Curtiss was the son of Israel & Jerusha (________) HURLBUT, and the younger brother of my Avis HURLBUT.  Nothing further is known at this time.

My paternal 5th-great grandaunt, Mary CHEW, was born on this date in 1780 in New Jersey.  Mary was the daughter of Rev. Jesse and Mary (RICHARDS) CHEW, and the younger sister of my Nathaniel CHEW.  Mary married Joseph EASTLACK about 1800.  Mary died October 6, 1851. Nothing further is known at this time.

My maternal 4th-great granduncle, Peter GROENENDYKE, was born on this date in 1800 in New Jersey.  Peter was the son of James and Johannah (ANTONIDES) GROENENDYKE, and the older brother of my Elias GROENENDYKE.  Peter married June 28, 1821 in Wayne County, Indiana to Hannah BEARD.  Hannah was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (DICKS) BEARD.  Hannah was born December 12, 1803 in Guilford County, North Carolina.  They had 4 children.  Hannah died November 19, 1886.  Peter died August 24, 1854 in Montgomery County, Indiana.

My maternal 3rd-great granduncle, Thomas KING, was born on this date in 1817 in Ohio.  Thomas was the son of William and Sarah (SULLIVAN) KING, and the older brother of my Daniel KING.  Thomas married before 1842 to Rebecca ________.   They had 6 children.  Rebecca was born February 16, 1822 in Virginia and died August 21, 1853 in Madison County, Indiana.  Thomas married secondly circa 1854 to Martha E. ________.  They had 3 children.  Martha was born circa 1833 in Indiana.  Thomas was a farmer in Monroe Township, Madison County, Indiana and served as a State Senator in Indiana.  Thomas died May 21, 1864 in Madison County, Indiana and is buried in the Howard Cemetery, Pipe Creek Township, Madison County, Indiana.

Tombstone Tuesday: William E. and Rachel (Lemasters) Cunningham

 

William E. and Rachel (LEMASTERS) CUNNINGHAM, my paternal 2nd-great grandaunt & uncle, are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.

William was born February 1835 in Indiana, the son of Benjamin and Margaret (CLINE) CUNNINGHAM.

Rachel was born July 16, 1838 in Shelby County, Ohio, the daughter of Luman Walker and Nancy (YOUNG) LEMASTERS.

William and Rachel were married on March 18, 1860 in Jay County, Indiana.
William's occupation was shoemaker and farmer.  They lived out their lives in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.

William died June 4, 1912.  Rachel died March 12, 1913.

Family Milestones: December 23rd

My paternal 7th-great granmother, Rebecca WARNER, married on this date in 1767 in Woodbury, Connectictut to Josiah BRONSON.  Her first husband, Moses HURLBUT, had died in 1763.  I do not have dates of birth or death for Josiah.  Rebecca was the daughter of Ebenezer and Mary (GILPIN) WARNER.  Rebecca was born December 12, 1715.  Rebecca and Moses had 5 children.  Rebecca died June 5, 1797.

My paternal 7th-great grandparents, Moses HURLBUT and Rebecca WARNER, were married on this date in 1735.  Moses was the son of Joseph and Mary (CASTLE) HURLBUT.  Rebecca was the daughter of Ebenezer and Mary (GILPIN) WARNER.  Moses was born August 26, 1714 in Woodbury, Connecticut.  Moses died August 3, 1763 in Roxbury, Connecticut, and Rebecca remarried to Josiah BRONSON, above.

My paternal greatuncle, Stanley Duey LeMASTER, married on this date in 1922 to Anna BEARD.  Stanley was the son of Luman Cooper and Barbara Isabel (WEHRLY) LeMASTERS.  Anna was the daughter of Sumner and Miriam (HUNNICUTT) BEARD.  Stanley was born February 23, 1898 in Jay County, Indiana.  Anna was born October 27, 1901 in Economy, Wayne County, Indiana.  They had 4 children.  Stanley died April 1982.

Tombstone Tuesday: Luman Cooper & Barbara Isabelle (Wehrly) LeMasters


My paternal great-grandparents, Luman Cooper and Barbara Isabel (Wehrly) LeMasters, are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.

Luman was born May 27, 1867 in Jay County, Indiana, the son of Luman Walker and Mary Keziah (Chew) Lemasters.

Barbara was born March 14, 1869 in Jay County, Indiana, the daughter of William P. and Olive Jane (Smith) Wehrly.

Luman and Barbara were married on November 13, 1886 in Jay County, Indiana. They moved shortly after their marriage to Ord, Valley County, Nebraska, but returned to Jay County, Indiana after the death of their first child. They lived out their remaining years on their farm in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana.

Luman and Barbara were the parents of thirteen children, all but the first child were born in Jay County, Indiana.

  • Clarence Harrison LeMasters (1888-1963) married Ferry May Bickel, had 5 children

  • Stanley Duey LeMaster (1898-1982) married Anna Beard, had 4 children
  • Dorothy Dot LeMaster (1900-1984) married Charles Glendon Hunt, had 3 children; married Glen Lock
  • John Leland LeMaster (1902-1980) married Dortha LeEtta DeLauter, had 6 children
  • Freda Claire LeMaster (1904-1979) married James Orville LaFollette; had 2 children
  • Ord Wehrly LeMaster (1906-1971) married Ruth Pauline Haley, had 6 children. These are my grandparents.
  • Mary Olive LeMaster (1909-) married Virgil Thornton Taylor, had 1 child.
  • Elvin Cooper LeMaster (1912-2000) married Cleo Belle Hanks, had 4 children.

William Cunningham family - 1910 Jay Co., IN

Today I sourced the 1910 census record in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana for William E. CUNNINGHAM, my paternal 2nd-great granduncle. William was married to Rachel LEMASTERS, the daughter of Luman Walker and Nancy (YOUNG) LEMASTERS.

William was listed as a 75 year old farmer, born in Indiana, with father born in Virginia and mother born in Pennsylvania. He and Rachel had been married for 50 years. Rachel was listed as aged 71 years, born in Ohio, with both parents born in Ohio. She was listed as the mother of 6 children, 5 of whom were still living in 1910.

William's occupation was that of a farmer, which corresponds with other census records. In 1860, his occupation was listed as a shoemaker.

William was born February 1835 in Indiana, and married Rachel on March 18, 1860 in Jay County, Indiana. Rachel was born July 16, 1838 in Shelby County, Ohio, and died March 13, 1913 in Jay County, Indiana. Their children were :

Joannah was born August 28, 1778 in New Jersey. She is believed to be the daughter of Pieter and Catherine (Vanderveer) Antonides. She married June 4, 1797 in New Jersey to James Groenendyke, son of Nicholas Groenendyke. James was born 1770 in Middlesex Co., NJ., and died September 1836 in Fayette Co., IN. Joannah died 1825 in Fayette Co., IN.
