Henry Alderman (1800-aft1880), Rush County, Indiana

Working on filling in some gaps in my database by utilizing the "Indiana Marriages, 1811-1959" database at Familysearch.org to see what updates and corrections I could find.

Henry Alderman (b. June 5, 1800), was the son of James Alderman and Catherine Warner.  His marriage to Mary Clark on September 22, 1823 in Rush County, Indiana was found in the database. Prior to this find, I didn't have the exact location on their marriage.

"Indiana, Marriages, 1811-1959," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XXFC-JHW : accessed 13 Jul 2013), Henry Alderman and Mary Clark, 1823.
Henry was my maternal 4th-great granduncle.  His father, James, was my 5th-great grandfather.  Henry ended up in Bond County, Illinois and Cherokee County, Kansas, where the last record I have of him was the 1880 census.  He also served with the abolitionist John Brown in the fall of 1855 in the 5th Regiment, 1st Brigade of Kansas Volunteers in the Wakarusa War.

Jacob Borror / Boyer (1763-1804)

Jacob BORROR / BOYER (1763-1804) is Corinne's maternal 6th-great grandfather. He was born circa 1763 in Hardy County, Virginia (now West Virginia), purportedly the son of another Jacob Borror. The family surname became Boyer by the time they came into Warrick and Vanderburgh Cos., Indiana.

Jacob is believed to have married circa 1788 to Magdalene STRADER (1767-1838), the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier, Christopher STRADER. Magdalene was born August 26, 1767 in Hampshire County, Virginia and died September 15, 1838 in Jackson Township, Franklin County, Ohio. Magdalene is purported to be buried in the Scioto Cemetery at Borrors Corners near Columbus, Ohio.

Jacob died June 2, 1804 in North Mill Creek, Hardy County, Virginia. One source states that he is buried in the Strader Cemetery, near Austin, Ross County, Ohio. Surely they didn't re-inter his body! Three of Jacob's sons, Martin, Jacob and Solomon moved to Franklin County, Ohio in 1809 and Jacob's widow, Magdalene, followed in 1811. They may have settled on bounty land from Magdalene's father's service during the Revolutionary War.

Most of this information remains unverified and comes from a single source - a family group sheet received back in 1992.

Known children of Jacob and Magdalene (Strader) Borror/Boyer are as follows:
i. Martin Boyer b. ca. 1793 Hardy Co., Virginia; d. August 1852 Boonville, Warrick County, Indiana; m. Anna BENNETT.
ii. Christina Boyer m. Patterson MORRIS
iii. Jacob Boyer m. Catherine CONROOD
iv. Solomon Boyer m. Catherine CLARK
v. Isaac Boyer m. Olive BABCOCK
vi. Myomi/Anna Boyer
vii. Absolom Boyer m. ______ SEEDS

Runaway Chew women

Working through some of the miscellaneous records in my files, I came across these two records that I saved from the CHEW mailing list on Rootsweb.

April 25, 1781: Gloucester County, April 23, 1781 To all whom it may concern, whereas my wife Elizabeth Chew, regardless of the Solemn obligation of matrimony, hath, during my captivity with the enemy, been guilty of the act of incontinency ....Aaron Chew

April 5, 1748; Whereas ANNE, the wife NATHANIEL CHEW, at the head of Timber-creek in Gloucester County, has disposed of some of her said husband's goods, without his knowledge, and ran him in debt; this is therefore to desire all persons not to trust her anymore on his account, not to buy any goods of her that she may offer to sale, for he will pay no debts of her contracting, nor allow of her selling any of his goods, from the date hereof. NATHANIEL CHEW

Both of these were quotes taken from the book "Runaway Women, Elopements And Other Miscreant Deeds, As Advertised In The Pennsylvania Gazette - 1728 -1789. (together with a few abused wives and unfortunate children)." Compiled by Judith Ann Highley Meier. Published by Closson Press. 1993.

I'm not sure which Aaron Chew family that this information relates to, and I believe that the Nathaniel Chew mentioned is the son of Nathaniel and Mary (Clark) Chew, who married Anne Gibbons. More research will need to be done to try to tie these records to individuals in my database. The book that these snippets were taken from sounds like an interesting read. Early newspapers are always full of juicy family tidbits.

Jeffrey married August 14, 1732 in Gloucester Co., NJ. to Amy Driver, daughter of John and Sarah (________) Driver. Amy was born circa 1715 and died November 3, 1773 in Gloucester Co., NJ. Today in my database : Mary Heritage (b. April 28, 1666)

Today's featured relative in my database is my paternal 9th great-grandmother, Mary Heritage.

Mary was born April 28, 1666 in Sutton, England, according to my database. She was the daughter of Richard and Mary (Timms) Heritage.

Mary married J. William Clark on September 13, 1687 in Gloucester Co., NJ. J. William was born 1656 in Gloucester, England and died in 1733. Mary died 1740 in Gloucester Co., NJ.

I descend from Mary & J. William's daughter, Mary Clark who married Nathaniel Chew.

Looking at this line, it is more than likely Quaker, and I wonder if the dates that I show are correct. Quaker dating did not use the pagan names of the months or days of the week, so this information in the database maybe incorrect.

My line of descent from Mary Heritage is as follows:

Mary Heritage & J. William Clark
Mary Clark & Nathaniel Chew
Jeffrey Chew & Amy Driver
Jesse Chew & Mary Richards
Nathaniel Chew & Sarah Springer
Nathaniel Chew & Mary West
Ezekiel Cooper Chew & Caroline Bishop Woolston
Mary Keziah Chew & Luman Walker Lemasters [my 2nd great-grandparents]
