1740 - Anna Katherine KAHRE died.  Anna was Corinne's 8x great-grandmother.


1752 - John STILLMAN born.  John was the son of John STILLMAN and Molly CLARKE.


1754 - Esther WILLSON born in Hardwick, Sussex County, New Jersey.  Esther was the daughter of Samuel WILLSON and Deborah WILLETS.


1767 - Roger BURDICK born in South Kingston, Rhode Island.  Roger was the son of Oliver BURDICK and Lydia ELDERTON.


1803 - Abraham BYERS born in Warrington Township, York County, Pennsylvania. Abraham was the son of Abraham BYERS and Mary STICKEL.


1813 - Catherine YOUNG born.  Catherine was the daughter of Phillip YOUNG and Nancy Ann McLANE.


1858 - William Martin BOYER married Elizabeth J. WILCOX in Franklin County, Ohio.  William was the son of Martin BOYER and Anna BENNETT.


1858 - Margaret Leona MAXON born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.  Margaret was the daughter of Melford Joseph MAXON and Mary E. LANCASTER.


1872 - Amos DUFFEY married Mary Keziah McKINNEY.  Amos was the son of Daniel DUFFEY and Susanna FREEZE.


1875 - Jessie Lillian LOOFBOURROW born in Darke County, Ohio.  Jessie was the daughter of William Wade LOOFBOURROW and Martha Julesa LEMASTERS.


1880 - Allen Aaron SWAFFORD married Meda LILES in Ray County, Missouri.  Allen was the son of John B. SWAFFORD and Nancy Rowena MILLARD.


1906 - Herbert W. METZNER born in Jay County, Indiana.  Herbert was the son of Irvin G. METZNER and Julia STONE.


1911 - Mary Louise PHILLIPS born in Kansas City, Missouri.  Mary was the daughter of Senator Winfield PHILLIPS and Una Maude LEMASTERS.


1912 - Jane JARRETT died in Fayette County, Iowa.  Jane was Corinne's 4x great-grandmother.


1912 - Lillian Mae ALDERMAN born in New Glarus, Wisconsin.  Lillian was the daughter of William ALDERMAN and Ida E. HOGA.

Family Milestones: June 27th

My paternal 2nd-great grandaunt, Elizabeth WEHRLY, was born on this date in 1841 in Preble County, Ohio.  Elizabeth was the daughter of Johannes and Barbara (PETRY) WEHRLY, and the older sister of my William P. WEHRLY.  Elizabeth married May 29, 1860 in Jay County, Indiana to Hiram B. HARTER, son of Henry and Mary Ann (TEAFORD) HARTER.  Hiram was born 1838 in Butler Township, Darke County, Ohio.  They raised 6 children in Jay County, where Hiram was a farmer and railroad watchman.  Hiram served in Company I, 147th Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.  Hiram died April 10, 1912 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.  Elizabeth died November 12, 1890 in Jay County, Indiana.  Both are buried in the Green Park Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.

My paternal 2nd-great grandaunt, Martha Julesa LEMASTERS, was born on this date in 1852 in Shelby County, Ohio.  Martha was the daughter of Luman Walker and Nancy (YOUNG) LEMASTERS, and the younger sister of my Luman Walker LeMASTERS Jr.  Martha married October 13, 1872 in Jay County, Indiana to William Wade LOOFBOURROW, son of John and Martha W. (SHEPHERD) LOOFBOURROW.  William was born June 10, 1850 in Darke County, Ohio. After their marriage, they moved to Valley County, Nebraska where they raised 5 children.  William died in 1940 in Valley County, Nebraska.  Martha died in 1936 in Ord, Valley County, Nebraska.

Tombstone Tuesday: Luman Walker and Nancy (Young) Lemasters




My paternal 3rd-great grandparents, Luman Walker and Nancy (YOUNG) LEMASTERS, are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.

Luman was born March 11, 1808 in Mason County, Virginia (now West Virginia), the son of Jacob and Hannah (________) LEMASTERS.

Nancy was born August 26, 1904 in Pickaway County, Ohio, the daughter of Philip and Nancy Ann (McLANE) YOUNG.

Luman and Nancy were married on January 19, 1832 in Shelby County, Ohio. They lived in Shelby County, Ohio until around 1854 when they purchased land in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana and settled there. Luman was a farmer and a Methodist Episcopal minister.

Luman died on April 15, 1888 in Jay County, Indiana and Nancy followed him on August 26, 1904 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana.

Luman and Nancy were the parents of the following children, all but John were born in Shelby County, Ohio:

  • Philip Lemasters (1836-1915) married Elizabeth C. HOOVER; 1 child

  • Luman Walker Lemasters (1842-1931) married Mary K. CHEW; 11 children
  • Jacob Lemasters (1845-1922) married Sarah A. HALFHILL; 10 children
  • Phebe Jane Lemasters (1847-aft1873) married William R. WILSON
  • Mary Lemasters (1849-1929) married John PETRY; 2 children
  • Martha Julesa Lemasters (1852-1936) married William W. LOOFBOURROW; 5 children
  • John Stevens Lemasters (1855-aft1920) married Sarah I. WILSON; 7 children

William Loofburrow household - Valley Co., NE

The William LOOFBURROW family was enumerated in the 1920 census of Ord, Valley Co., NE. Willam was married to Martha Julesa LEMASTERS, daughter of Luman Walker and Nancy (YOUNG) LEMASTERS.

William was listed as a retired farmer, aged 69, born in Indiana with both parents being born in Ohio. Other sources I have shows his birthplace as Darke Co., OH. Martha was listed as a housewife, age 68, born in Ohio with father born in West Virginia and mother born in Ohio.

Their son, William C., aged 31, was living with them as well as a single male. His occupation was given as that of a lawyer.

Luman Walker Lemasters Sr. (b. March 11, 1808)

Today's featured relative in my database is my paternal 3rd-great grandfather, Luman Walker Lemasters.

Luman was born March 11, 1808 in Mason Co., VA (now WV), the son of Jacob and Hannah (________) Lemasters. Luman married January 19, 1832 in Shelby Co., OH to Nancy Young, daughter of Phillip and Nancy Ann (McLane) Young. Nancy was born June 2, 1812 in Pickaway Co., OH, and died August 26, 1904 in Salamonia, Jay Co., IN. Luman died April 15, 1888 in Jay Co., IN. Both are buried in the Salamonia Cemetery.

Luman was a farmer and Methodist Episcopal minister. His residence in the 1840 & 1850 census was in Shelby Co., OH, and the family moved to Jay Co., IN. around 1854.
