Funeral Record: Amanda King

This funeral of Amanda KING was found at the Alexandria-Monroe Historical Society museum. Amanda was my maternal 2nd-great grandaunt, the wife of Suman Douglas KING.  Her maiden name was Amanda Louise FOX.

According to the record, Amanda was born September 24, 1860, the daughter of Philip and Mary (RECTOR) FOX.  She died June 22, 1944 at 12:10 a.m. in Orestes, Madison County, Indiana.  The cause of death listed was a cerebral hemorrhage.

Her husband, Douglas, aged 83, was the responsible party for the bill, which totaled $ 321.00.  The ledger is interesting, as it lists installment payments made on the bill, and lists who made the payment - by her children. The final payment of $ 24.00 was made January 14, 1950 by Fred KING when the bill was marked "Paid in Full".  That was the time of her husband's death, so the children must have been made aware of a balance and settled up at that time.

Sentimental Sunday: Memories of Virgil Lee Wright (1894-1972)

Virgil Lee Wright (1894-1972) was my maternal great-grandfather.  While I don't have any memories of him to share, my cousin Charlie High shared some of the following tidbits:

"Virgil hid his Salem cigarettes in my cattles' corn born bin.  He was always at the fairs when I showed my cattle and he came and visited me in El Paso, Texas while I was in AIT training in the Army.  Bob and Barbara Webster brought him down there."

Another tidbit was relied by Charlie "a guy at the feed barn named Ernie Rector said his family was in a thrashing ring with Virgil and many locals such as Blackledge, Goldie Freese and many more, John and Mike Wright, etc."  I had no idea what a thrashing ring was, until I looked it up on Google and found this book:

Charlie also told me that he named his first steer after Virgil, called him "Virg".

Marriage: Thompson A. Fox to Daisy L. Wright

The marriage record of Thompson Asbury FOX to Daisy L. WRIGHT occurred September 27, 1890 in Madison County, Indiana.  Daisy L. WRIGHT was my maternal 2nd-great grandaunt, the daughter of Joseph W. and Rebecca (HEATON) WRIGHT. Thompson, or Thomas, as he is shown in most records, was the son of Phillip and Mary (RECTOR) FOX.

Thomas was born September 1869 in Indiana.  Daisy was born June 1873 in Indiana.  After their marriage, they lived in Madison County, Indiana where Thomas was a farmer.  He died February 1, 1926 in Madison County, Indiana and is buried at the Park View Cemetery, according to his obituary.  Daisy was living still in the 1930 census in Lafayette Township, Madison County, Indiana.   There is a Daisy L. Fox listed in the obituary database at the Anderson Public Library with an obit date of 3/29/1950, but I don't know yet if this is her.  Neither Daisy or Thomas appears in the cemetery database.
