1637 - Anton SCHWARTZ born in Egenhausen, Württemberg.  Anton was the son of Anton SCHWARTZ and Anna WACKENHUT.  Anton was my 9x-great grandfather.

1758 - John MENDENHALL died in Chester County, Pennsylvania.  John was the son of Thomas MENDENHALL and Joane STROADE.  John was my 9x-great grandfather.

1764 - Jacob GROENENDYKE born in Kingston, Middlesex County, New Jersey.  Jacob was the son of Petrus GROENENDYKE and Mayke VERKERK.

1797 - Bowater CANADAY married Mary RUSSELL.  Bowater was the son of John CANADAY and Margaret THORNBURGH.

1816 - Martin BOYER married Anna BENNETT in Franklin County, Ohio.  Martin was the son of Jacob BORROR and Magdalene STRADER.  Anna was the daughter of Joseph BENNETT.   They were Corinne's 5x-great grandparents.

1843 - Owen DAVIS born.  Owen was the son of Ehud DAVIS and Catherine DAVIS.

1854 - John Winfield MAXON born in Pennsylvania.  John was the son of Alexander Young MAXON and Margaret ROSE.

1858 - Nathan BEALS died in Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana.  Nathan was the son of Bowater BEALS and Sarah Ann COOK.

1867 - Alvan MILLS born in Morgan County, Indiana.  Alvan was the son of Aaron MILLS and Hannah MACY.

1872 - Charles Wesley HALEY born in Medina County, Ohio.  Charles was the son of George Washington HALEY and Mary Jane SHERRICK.

1877 - Susannah STUMP died in Preble County, Ohio.  Susannah was the daughter of George PETRY and Maria Catharina KALTREIDER.

1881 - George Albert ORCUTT born in Jay County, Indiana.  George was the son of James ORCUTT and Samantha E. METZNER.

1888 - Effa Mae HIXENBAUGH born in Roscoe, Washington County, Pennsylvania.  Effa was the daughter of Church HIXENBAUGH and Sarah A. MAXON.

1890 - Ora Vernon BRADLEY born.  Ora was the son of Isaac M. BRADLEY and Manerva Lavonia SWAFFORD.

1895 - John CARTER died in Hendricks County, Indiana.  John was the son of John CARTER and Sarah BEALS.

1901 - James Aaron SWAFFORD born in Bledsoe County, Tennessee.  James was the son of James Aaron SWAFFORD and Nancy Alice SHERRIL.

1907 - Allen F. SWOFFORD born.  Allen was the son of Clinton Franklin SWOFFORD and Lucy F. STEVA.

1943 - Fred E. WILD died in Boonville, Warrick County, Indiana.  Fred was the son of Johannes Heinrich WILD and Emilie DEUTSCH.

1962 - Carlton Elijah CHEW died.  Carlton was the son of William Tatem CHEW and Lucretta VAN DEXTER.

2011 - Larry R. PIERCE died in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana.  Larry was the son of William McClellan PIERCE and Geneva Ruth ALDRIDGE.

Funeral Services Wednesday

Last Rites for Pioneer Resident of Jay County Will Be At Salamonia

Catherine Elizabeth Wehrly, 71, is dead at the home of her son, Lon Wehrly, west of Boundary, after a short illness of pneumonia.  She had gone from her home in South Portland for a visit with her son and family, and was taken ill while there.

Mrs. Wehrly, who was the daughter of Luman and Nancy (Young) Leemaster, was born in Shelby county, Ohio, June 26, 1840.  Early in life, she came with her parents to Jay county, and has since been a continuous resident.  Her husband, the late John P. Wehrly, died several years ago.  Three daughters and two sons survive, they being Mrs. John Boyd, of Oregon, Belle, wife of John Marlin, of Ft. Recovery; Alice Stump and Lewis W. Wehrly, of Ft. Recovery, and Lon Wehrly of near Boundary, at whose home she died.

The funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in Salamonia Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock.

Family Milestones: March 3rd

My paternal 4th-great granduncle, George KALTREIDER, was born on this date in 1775.  George was the son of Duvald and Elizabeth Catherine [________] KALTREIDER, and the younger brother of my Maria Catharina KALTREIDER.  Nothing further is known at this time.

My paternal 2nd-great granduncle, Samuel W. CHEW, was born on this date in 1852.  Samuel was the son of Ezekiel Cooper and Caroline Bishop (WOOLSTON) CHEW, and the younger brother of my Mary Keziah CHEW.  Samuel died March 4, 1852, living only 1 day.

My maternal 5th-great grandaunt, Susannah KIMMER, was born on this date in 1791.  Susannah was the daughter of Nicholas and Sarah (FAYLER) KIMMER, and the younger sister of my Elizabeth KIMMER.  Nothing further is known at this time.

My paternal 3rd-great grandaunt, Susannah PETRY, was born on this date in 1807 in York, York County, Pennsylvania.  Susannah was the daughter of George and Maria Catharina (KALTREIDER) PETRY, and the younger sister of my Barbara PETRY.  Susannah married Benjamin STUMP.  Susannah died August 19, 1877 in Preble County, Ohio.

My paternal great-granduncle, Wesley F. METZNER, was born on this date in 1872 in Wayne Township, Jay County, Indiana.  Wesley was the son of John Adam and Clara (MOULTON) METZNER, and the younger brother of my Cora Belle METZNER.  Wesley married October 20, 1898 in Jay County, Indiana to Elnora M. AXE.  Elnora was born September 14, 1878 in Noble Township, Jay County, Indiana, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (KIMBALL) AXE.  They had 2 children.  Wesley died November 5, 1953 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.  Both are buried at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Noble Township, Jay County, Indiana.
