1683 - Geertje VERKERK married Jan Dirkse VAN VLIET in Flatbush, Long Island.  Geertje was the daughter of Jan Janse VERKERK and Mayke GYSBERTS.

1732 - Nathaniel NEWLIN died.  Nathaniel was the son of Nathaniel NEWLIN and Mary MENDENHALL.

1777 - Richard TAYLOR born.  Richard was the son of Commodore Richard TAYLOR and Catherine DAVIS.

1780 - Strangeman STANLEY born in Guilford County, North Carolina.  Strangeman was the son of Strangeman STANLEY and Jemima MILLS.

1795 - Charity BEALS married Benjamin HOGGATT in Guilford County, North Carolina.  Charity was the daughter of Bowater BEALS and Sarah Ann COOK.

1799 - Joseph CHEW married Elizabeth THOMAS in Frederick County, Virginia.  Joseph was the son of James CHEW and Mary CALDWELL.

1809 - Absalom HAWORTH married Lydia RIPLEY.  Absalom was the son of Absalom HAWORTH and Mary WEST.

1812 - Drusilla MAXSON born in Green Briar Run, Virginia.  Drusilla was the daughter of Zebulon MAXSON and Mary DAVIS.

1818 - Jemima SILLS born in Jackson Township, Champaign County, Ohio.  Jemima was the daughter of Michael SILLS and Rosanna FETTERS.

1830 - John Hunt BABCOCK born in Northampton, Ohio.  John was the son of Jacob BABCOCK and Lydia MAXSON.

1846 - Melvin SMITH born in Madison County, Ohio.  Melvin was the son of Seth SMITH and Nancy CLEMONS.

1868 - Mary Edith HEATON born.  Mary was the daughter of Townsend HEATON and Mary Louise WINTERS.

1896 - Sophia Matilda HINDS married Solom Shannon SAYERS in Orlinda, Montana.  Sophia was the daughter of Peter Horry HINDS and Rachel Brown LEE.

1910 - Roy CHIVLARE died.  Roy was the son of Alpha Revis CHIVLARE and Clara Belle FOLLOWAY.

1688 - Joseph PIERCE born in Woburn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.  Joseph was the son of John PIERCE and Deborah CONVERS.

1721 - Frances TAYLOR married Ambrose MADISON in Orange County, Virginia.  Frances was the daughter of James TAYLOR and Martha THOMPSON.

1733 - Richard BROWN married Mary NORTON.  Richard was the son of William BROWN and Ann MERCER.

1737 - Jonathan MAXSON born in Westerly, Rhode Island.  Jonathan was the son of John MAXSON and Tacy ROGERS.

1744 - Lydia BEALS born.  Lydia was the daughter of Jacob BEALS and Elizabeth GRIEST.

1769 - Nicholas ERB died.  Nicholas was the son of Nicholas ERB and Catherine ________.

1773 - George MAXSON born.  George was the son of Simeon MAXSON and Mary BABCOCK.

1816 - Jacob M. PETRY born in York County, Pennsylvania.  Jacob was the son of Henry PETRY.

1821 - Charlotte WOOLSTON died in Burlington County, New Jersey.  Charlotte was the daughter of Robert HAINES and Rachel VENICOMB.

1842 - William Harrison SWAFFORD born in Tennessee.  William was the son of James A. SWAFFORD and Polly Ann NAIL.

1845 - Sarah RINENHART died in Henry County, Indiana.  Sarah was the daughter of Daniel ADNEY and Anna COGER.

1854 - Peter GROENENDYKE died in Montgomery County, Indiana.  Peter was the son of James GROENENDYKE and Joannah ANTONIDES.

1859 - James HAWORTH married Rebecca Mahala BRUNER.  James was the son of Nathaniel HAWORTH and Anna OLIPHANT.

1868 - Ellen KING born in Frankton, Madison County, Indiana.  Ellen was the daughter of Daniel KING and Elizabeth SHAW.  Ellen was my 2x-great grandmother.

1869 - Julia C. COFFELT born in Cole County, Missouri.  Julia was the daughter of Daniel COFFELT and Rebecca A. SWAFFORD.

1882 - Ercie A. LEE born.  Ercie was the daughter of Reubin Brown LEE and Nancy A. CRAFT.

1884 - Lucinda SCISM died in Stoddard County, Missouri.  Lucinda was the daughter of Samuel McPHEETERS and Lucretia BARRETT.

1885 - Gertie LEE born.  Gertie was the daughter of John Edward LEE and Sarah SWAFFORD.

1885 - William Everett GILLILAND born in Elletsville, Monroe County, Indiana. William was the son of Robert Farrell GILLILAND and Mary Ellen SWAFFORD.

1904 - John Harvey SWAFFORD born in Anthony, Kansas.  John was the son of James Wesley SWAFFORD and Emma SMITH.

1914 - Susannah HOOVER died in Pomona, California.  Susannah was the daughter of Solomon PEFLEY and Frances ROOF.

1941 - Emma Rose GARNER died.  Emma was the daughter of Alexander Young MAXON and Margaret ROSE.

1948 - John Robert WILDT died in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana.  John was the son of Edward Ferdinand WILDT and Miriam Ruth MIGUET.

1681 - Roelof Janse VERKERK married Catherine SIMONS in Flatbush, Long Island, New York.  Roelof was the son of Jan Janse VERKERK and Mayke GYSBERTS.  They were my 9x-great grandparents.


1692 - James HIGGINS born.  James was the son of Jedediah HIGGINS and Mary NEWBOLD.


1746 - Anna CHIPMAN died.  Anna was the daughter of Nicholas FESSENDEN and Margaret CHENEY.


1746 - Benjamin FESSENDEN died.  Benjamin was the son of Nicholas FESSENDEN and Margaret CHENEY.


1750 - Anna DAVIS born.  Anna was the daughter of Joseph DAVIS and Anna BABCOCK.


1767 - Mary MAXSON born.  Mary was the daughter of Matthew MAXSON and Martha POTTER.


1772 - Ebenezer LUNDY born.  Ebenezer was the son of Amos LUNDY and Ann COLLINS.


1784 - Daniel BEALS born in York County, Pennsylvania.  Daniel was the son of  Jacob BEALS and Elizabeth BLACKBURN.


1817 - Joseph DEACON born in Burlington County, New Jersey.  Joseph was the son of Joseph DEACON and Beulah HAINES.

1821 - Milton CARTER born in Guilford County, North Carolina.  Milton was the son of Jesse CARTER and Nancy KENDALL.


1831 - Friedrich Wilhelm KAHRE born in Kummerdingsen, Westphalia.  Friedrich was the son of Heinrich Wilhelm KAHRE and Marie Caroline Wilhelmina KORFF.


1868 - William F. GEGENHEIMER born in Vermillion, Erie County, Ohio.  William was the son of August GEGENHEIMER and Sarah C. HALEY.


1872 - Mary Ann LAYMAN died in Owen County, Indiana.  Mary was the daughter of Conrad NOSLER and Sarah PAINS.  Mary was my 5x-great grandmother.


1881 - Elizabeth Angeline KING married Eli Bird THOMAS in Edwards County, Kansas.  Elizabeth was the daughter of John Wesley KING and Mary Catherine HENDRICKS.


1919 - Fern PIERPONT died in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.  Fern was the daughter of Joseph Gilbert PIERPONT and Lena Leato ORCUTT.


1960 - Chesley Franklin LeMASTER died in Jay County, Indiana.  Chesley was the son of Luman Cooper LeMASTERS and Barbara Isabel WEHRLY.

The GROENENDYKE surname is in my maternal line.  Variations include GROENDYKE, GRUENDYKE, etc.  The origins of the surname are Dutch.


Stories and history:


Ahnentafel # 53: Catherine Groenendyke (1843-1913).  Catherine was born February 4, 1843 in Madison County, Indiana.  She married May 5, 1864 in Madison County, Indiana to Edmund G. Pierce (1837-1875).  Edmund was born April 30, 1837 in Wayne County, Indiana.  They raised 5 children in Lafayette Township, Madison County, Indiana.  Edmund died January 8, 1875 in Madison County, Indiana.  Catherine died December 10, 1913 in Lafayette Township, Madison County, Indiana.


Ahnentafel # 106: Elias Groenendyke (1818-1906).  Elias was born May 20, 1818 in Fayette County, Indiana.  He married July 28, 1839 in Fayette County, Indiana to Nancy Jenkins (1817-1856).  Nancy was born in 1817 in North Carolina.  They had 9 children in Fayette and Madison Counties, Indiana.  Elias was a farmer and teacher. Nancy died May 11, 1856 in Madison County, Indiana.  Elias married secondly on October 21, 1857 to Hester Teaford (1827-1870).  Hester was born July 26, 1827 in Ohio.  They had 4 children, and moved the family to Darke County, Ohio.  Hester died September 23, 1870 in Darke County, Ohio.  Elias died May 23, 1906 in Darke County, Ohio.


Ahnentafel # 212: James Groenendyke (1770-1836). James was born in 1770 in Middlesex County, New Jersey.  He married June 4, 1797 to Joannah Antonides (1778-1825).  Joannah was born August 28, 1778 in New Jersey.  They had 8 children in Middlesex County, New Jersey and Dearborn and Fayette Counties, Indiana.  They moved to Indiana just after the War of 1812.  Joannah died in Fayette County, Indiana in 1825.  James married secondly on June 3, 1826 in Henry County, Indiana to Barbara Buck (1795-1878).  Barbara was born April 5, 1798 in Salem, North Carolina.  They had 7 children together. Barbara died September 17, 1878.  James died September 1836 in Fayette County, Indiana.


Ahnentafel # 424: Nicholas Groenendyke (1749-1808).  Nicholas was born March 20, 1749 in Kingston, Middlesex County, New Jersey. He had at least two wives, Violet Story and Catherine Kiple.  I do not know which was the mother of James, and this is the weakest link in the family line.  Nicholas died in February 1808.


Ahnentafel # 848: Johannes Groenendyke (1718-1785).  Johannes was born 1718 in Kingston, Middlesex County, New Jersey.  He married August 25, 1744, probably in Middlesex County, New Jersey, to Sarah Ann Lake (c1725-1771).  Sarah was born circa 1725 in Middlesex County, New Jersey.  They had 10 children in Kingston, Middlesex County, New Jersey.  Sarah died May 1771.  Johannes died July 1785 near Kingston, Middlesex County, New Jersey.


Ahnentafel # 1696: Petrus "Samuel" Groenendyke (bef1685-1753).  Petrus was baptised August 16, 1685 at the Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam.  He married October 24, 1713 at Flatbush Reformed Dutch Church to Sara Probasco (c1693-1713/14).  Sara was born circa 1693 and died between 1713 and 1714.  Petrus married secondly circa 1715 to Mayke Verkerk (c1688-    ).  Mayke was born circa 1688 in New Utrecht, Kings County, New York.  They had 7 children.  Petrus married thirdly on May 13, 1732 on May 13, 1732 at the Reformed Dutch Church in New York City to Maria Van Vleck (c1685-1759).  They had one daughter.  Maria died December 175
9. Petrus died November 23, 1753 in Flatbush, Long Island, New York.


Ahnentafel # 3392: Pieter Groenendyke alias Peter Smith (c1645-1701).  Pieter was born circa 1645 in Holland. He was a character.  He was sued by two women for fathering children at the same time, Annetje Blanck and Marritie de La Noy.  He married Marritie circa 1673 and they had 6 children together.  He was in Sussex County, Delaware by 1671, when he appears on the taxlist, by 1680 he was in Kent County.  He was elected in 1685 to the Delaware Assembly from Kent County and re-elected in 1689.  He died 1701 in Kent County, Delaware.
